Merel advises and litigates on employment-law issues such as collective layoffs and individual dismissals, reorganisations, salaries and fringe benefits and disability. She assists both domestic and international clients. One of her particular areas of expertise and experience is the Dutch Standards for Remuneration Act (Wet Normering Topinkomens).

Merel studied Civil Law in Leiden, and completed the Grotius Employment Law specialist programme cum laude in 2016. Before joining Rutgers & Posch in 2013, she worked for Allen & Overy. In 2016, Merel was voted Legal Woman’s Upcoming Legal Talent.

What’s so unique about employment law is that you’re always dealing with a combination of people, jobs and money. Although it’s often an emotional situation for the people involved, I always try to guide them towards a rational solution that’s acceptable to all the parties.
